Swing generally refers to all those dance forms in which a partner is required. Some of the basic swing dance forms are as follows:-
- Jitterbug
Jitterbug is a type of swing dance. It was a very traditional dance form of the 20th century. Some jazz dancer still performs this dance style. It involves lots of swings and turns.
- Lindy Hop
Originated in Harlem this is one of the most popular swing dance forms.
- Jive
Jive is a type of jitterbug dance form but with very fast speed and variations.
- Boogie Woogie
Boogie Woogie is a piano-based swing dance form that became very popular in the 1930s and ’40s. It was a very famous dance at that time, and this dance form is very popular today also.
- West Coast Swing
It is a little complex form of dance in which the dancer is required to travel back and forth along a slot or rectangle.
Besides swing dance, there is swing music also. The swing music is also as varied as the different sing dance styles. Swing music includes- jazz, hip hop, blues, pop etc. By the swing music, the swing dance is done. We can say they swing music forms the base of swing dances.
